HAPPY FOR YOU
June is now fading into July, a very hot and humid Saturday,
And I am sitting here listening to your records play.
You are singing “Hawaiian Wedding Song,”
And I know the tears will start before long,
Because, dear friend, I miss you so,
No matter what I do or where I go.
You are such an integral part of my life
That, without you, it is pure strife.
Thank God for your records and movies;
We listen and watch with mixed emotions and agonies,
So thrilled to see you and listen to you sing,
Hurting with the happiness your presence brings.
Even though it is vinyl and celluloid,
They certainly help to fill this void.
Elvis, we pray to God that you did know
The marvelous impact you had on us before you had to go.
We pray you know our feelings for you were real,
Not only as an entertainer, but as a person with whom we could feel
Very comfortable and happy, just knowing you were here.
And happy for you now, because you are with the one you held so dear,
It is for ourselves that we are so sad,
But deep down, for you, we are glad,
For you are with our Father in his paradise.
When we remember this, the tears are happy tears in our eyes,
But we can never bring ourselves to say, “Elvis, Good-Bye.”
